Medics rehearse for the Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final
(BEIJING, September 11) -- "Medics, there is a patient in the media area! Please come soon! A volunteer will guide you on the way."
Within 25 seconds, a six-member medical team arrived. They all acted as if they were actually at the battlefield for the upcoming Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final, which will be held from September 15-16 at three Olympic venues -- the Olympic Sports Center Stadium for running and riding, Ying Tung Natatorium for swimming, and the Fencing Hall of the National Convention Center for fencing and shooting.
Another four minutes
Before the rehearsal, the team were on call at the Games-time medical station for spectators, keeping in touch with the medical manager.
Having received the order, the team hurried to the media area with medical tools and first-aid kits on the stretcher. The doctor on the team then started to diagnose, measuring blood pressure, heartbeat, etc.
Nearly four minutes after the call, the patient was carried into an ambulance and sent to a nearby hospital.
Bi-language services and 10-25 minutes more
"If the patient is a foreigner, we will be able to explain things to him (her) in English." said Li Yi, a first-year doctoral student on the team.
Should the patient suffer from trauma, the ambulance will head for the Peking University Third Hospital, and will be there in 10 minutes.
If it's an internal injury, the patient will be sent off to the China-Japan Friendship Hospital and will arrive in 25 minutes.
