UIPM President: A successful rehearsal for 2008

(Beijing, September 16) The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final came to an end at the Beijing's Olympic Sports Center on September 16. Klaus Schormann, President of the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM), spoke highly of the event organization. He said that not only the local organizers had done a good job but the athletes had given excellent performances and achieved very good results, and that the World Cup Final in Beijing could be said a successful rehearsal for the 2008 Olympic Games.

"After the men's competition yesterday I said let's see if everything would be better tomorrow. Today I felt satisfied with the organizers' work." The UIPM chief was referring to the local organizing committee's summing-up meeting on the first-day competition. "Today, from the first event of shooting to the last of the prize-giving ceremony, they all did better than yesterday and strictly in accordance with the schedule. All the departments concerned also worked more closely than before to ensure the success of the event."

The UIPM President said that despite some problems the organizers had to face they tried their very best and solved them all. Through the two-day event, he noted, the organizers would know better what to do and how to meet next year's Olympic Games. The athletes, for their part, he added, also got to know better the venues for their future Olympic competition.

According to the UIPM President, the UIPM will continue to work closely with the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG), and with the experience gained from this tournament redouble its efforts to make the Olympic MP competition a great success.
